ATC overrides keyboard control

Featured Replies

Hi,Problem - When the ATC window is open, you can't control the plane using the keyboard. It appears that all the keys work except for the arrow keys (at least that's what I get on my Dell D810 laptop).I've seen comments about this before, but haven't seen a solution yet. I did a search and couldn't find anything.Has anyone figured out how to solve this problem yet? Is there something I can do with FSUIPC to fix this? Thanks,Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180

I haven't tried this but logic tells me that if you click somewhere outside the ATC window, that you will change the focus from the ATC window back to the panel and then your keyboard should work normally. Oh, and then click inside the ATC window again before responding to ATC. R-

Well yes, but when it's bumpy and you're in the middle of a maneuver, and all of a sudden ATC calls with somebody else's flight, moving the mouse around like that when you're flying by keyboard is a bit inconvenient.I'm going to try to use FSUIPC to fix it per Pete Dowson's suggestion.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180

Thomas, Wow, I just experienced what you're talking about and it is the pits!It makes the plane unflyable on final on a busy approach when ATC is giving you commands left and right. You have NO ABILITY to control the plane!Have you found a fix for this using FSUIPC?-Rick----------- My System -----------P4 @ 2.53 GHz / 1GB RAM / NVIDIA GeForce 6800XT, 256MB / Windows XP Home

You can set the ATC window popup behaviour somewhere in the settings and make it NOT pop up if there is a message.I had a few near crashes a couple of times because of this before i found the setting. Was controlling the aircraft with the (numeric) keyboard, and while manovering i suddenly saw a ATC window with text scrolling in it :oP

I hadn't tested this because I am using a laptop, so the numkeys are only accessible by holding the Fn key and pressing keys in the middle of the keyboard, so it's kind of a pain. But with the numlock key off, the numpad arrows still work on my Dell D810. It sounds like from the post above, however, this may not always be true.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180

Reply, yep, Pete Dowson just confirmed that the numpad arrow keys will not normally work. I assume they are working for me because I am using a non-standard keyboard function through the laptop. You can check out Pete's response here: http://forums.simflight.com/viewtopic.php?p=357443#357443Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180

Thanks for trying to help Thomas, and indeed it is good that you have forwarded this info to Microsoft. Hello ACES, any comments or fixes on this?As Pete Dowson said, it is a pretty serious bug.Aircraft control, whether in FS or real flight, is always of paramount importance. For ATC to steal control of one's keyboard without one's permission is mind-boggling in it's stupidity!(And ACES this is not meant as an insult to any of you. Just that this change from previous practice is really really really bad!! Really!)-RickPS - And for the record, I use my numeric keypad to control pitch, roll, and throttle. ATC steals focus of all keypad buttons!----------- My System -----------P4 @ 2.53 GHz / 1GB RAM / NVIDIA GeForce 6800XT, 256MB / Windows XP Home
