Problems with ATC

Flight plan programmed, first officer is handling the radio, he suddenly says about 20 miles from Birmingham UK he says IFR flight plan cancelled, why would he say that  ? I have to continue the flight with no ATC.no option to reinstate the flight plan.This is not the first time this has happened from Bristol to Brum, weird or what ??

A bit unrelated but recently when, after landing, Tower tells me to contact Ground - no Ground on the ATC menu. This has happened twice at different airports. Taxied to parking where there was a marshaller.

More problematical is after taxying to the runway and holding short, I was unable to contact Tower as it is not on the menu. On taking off Tower told me (fortunately in polite terms) my departure had not been authorised.

So ATC has wanted me to descend into mountains, climb to 10000 feet 20 miles from my low level destination, prevents me from contacting my destination whilst giving me numerous airfields in every other direction and now b***ks me for daring to take off....
