January 12, 20215 yr Ahoi! in short, I've been trying to have multiple X-Plane windows/views, while running a single X-Plane instance on a single display. My aim is to record some videos of the A/C from outside as well as of the main instruments while performing some maneuvers. I'm basically looking for a functionality similar to Prepar3D's, where it is possible to invoke extra views. I believe this functionality is often used to keep an eye on an instrument (say MCDU), while the main camera is used for flying. What I've tried so far and the (unsuccessful) results: - Fake a second display: Doesn't seem to be possible anymore on "vanilla" Windows 10 using a few "tricks" posted online. Haven't been able to find software that allows faking a second display. - Run X-Plane on a Virtual Machine and use X-Plane's networking, allowing me to configure a camera showing the instruments on the VM: GPU resources cannot be shared, therefore, I'm bound to a few MBs GPU from the processor on the VM, resulting in an extremely laggy experience on the VM. My background (why I'm trying to do this) is the following: For teaching purposes (demonstrating phugoids and AoA-oscillations) I wanted to create a few videos using X-Plane with various aircraft. With X-Plane's flight model and physics being better than Prepar3D's (which is my other available option) I thought I could shoot each video showing the aircraft from the side, along with a view to the instruments. Besides that, using the XPlane SDK I've been able to create live graphs, which would be useful to see the relationships between the angles, altitude and airspeed. The students are to take note of some parameters, which will allow them to see the influence of certain parameters on the aircraft's dynamic stability. I've attached an example of what I'm trying to achieve. If anyone has ideas to solve this, it would be much appreciated, thank you.
January 12, 20215 yr If the videos are pre-recorded, maybe the easiest thing is: .) Execute the maneuver in X-Plane; .) Use the X-Plane replay to record in instrument view; .) Use the X-Plane replay to record in external view. Also, X-Plane has an in-built configurable video recorder. Then use a basic video-editor to join the two videos (internal/external) together. The data graphs can also be shown inside X-Plane, but using Excel allows a greater degree of customability. "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".
January 28, 20215 yr Author Thank you for the suggestion, I ended up doing it like that and this is what I got, worked pretty nicely.
