Creating and displaying custom user airspace

Recommended Posts

Trying to get my head around creating custom airspace. What I want to do is create a file to display all aerodrome traffic zones (ATZs) in the UK. However, I'm struggling: I can't get the files I create to display in LNM (v.2.6.7).

Here is my workflow for one example airfield, EGTF Fairoaks. Fairoaks has a standard ATZ: SFC-2000' AGL. Airfield elevation is 80ft.

Using the Openair format from here, I create a .txt file with the following contents:

AC CTR
AN Fairoaks ATZ
AL SFC
AH 2080ALT
V X=51:20:53 N 000:33:31 W
DC 2

I then save the txt file into the default location, \documents\Little Navmap Files\User Airspaces\

After saving the file, I go to the menu item Scenery Library > Load User Airspaces...

Expected behaviour: a 2nm radius CTR airspace displays in LNM centred on EGTF with a max height of 2000ft,

Actual behaviour: LNM detects the file and shows a dialogue box saying 1 user airspace loaded from 1 file. But the airspace is not displayed. What am I doing wrong?

Hmm. I have double checked that User is ticked under Scenery Library > Airspace Libraries. I've quit and restarted just to be sure. The file is called egtf.txt, created in Notepad, saved direct into the User Airspaces folder with contents as above.

Just tried Reset Display Settings and that didn't help.

I have the latest Navigraph db enabled and "use Navigraph for all features" enabled with MSFS as the base sim. Switching it to P3D doesn't help. Neither does "use Navigraph for navaids and procedures".

Navigraph sub-menu does not change airspace sources. Filename should not matter as long as it has a .txt extension.

Is the airspace category "OTR" -> "Center" enabled? This is disabled after "reset display settings".

That was the problem! My airspace is now displaying correctly. Thanks!

Hi Lambourne

I have started flying VFR in MSFS and use LNM as a great tool to help me do so. However I don’t have any ATZ airspace showing in LNM I thought it might get pick it up from MSFS but it doesn’t or maybe I’m doing something wrong. Would you be able to share your file you created which shows the ATZ’s please?

Kind regards

Rob
