FSX won't start?

Featured Replies

I'm in a spot of bother with FSX. Tonight I tried to start FSX & it no longer starts properly. The screen with Flight Similator X comes up but that's where it all stops. The sim just hangs at that screen. I have not made any changes to FSX since the last time it worked properly. I have however used the MS update site to update several windows xp components.Update.Ok, I found the problem even though I can't figure how it happened. The logbook was stopping FSX from starting. I deleted the original & now everything works ok. I had heard that the log & will cause problems & now I believe that.

Have you tried to use the repair install facility on the original DVD?Allcott

The same thing happened to me last week. I really hope ACES fixes the logbook issue with the patch/update.

This problem has been noted by others, myself included. The logbook becomes corrupted and causes FSX to hang on the splash screen. It is possible to recover the corrupt logbook file, if you have alot of hours/flights you want to keep. It requires using a HEX editor and understanding a little about the file structure. I have posted intructions in several places on how to go about this repair. You can search this forum or over at Simviation and you should find those instructions. Search on "logbook corrupt" or "corrupt logbook". I supose I should have saved a copy of those instructions to repost, alas, I did not :( Paul
