Empty airports filtering option

Featured Replies

A question for Alex - would it be possible to implement additional field for filtering options to get separate lists of "empty" and "non-empty" (normal) airports?
At this moment they are displayed together and there isn't possible to sort them in reference to their empty/non-empty statuses.

Piotr

Hi Piotr,

there is an empty airport filtering option for map display (if special handling of empty airports in enabled in options) and one in airport search.

In search you can avoid empty airports by selecting at least a one star rating. Empty equals to zero stars.
To see only empty airports you have to apply a workaround: Search for all airports and then click on the table header "Rating" twice to sort by rating in reverse order. This will put empty on top of the list.

I think I had this option in search once and removed it for the rating. I can add a "no rating" option though, if that helps. This is no big deal.

Thanks Alex, I haven't known this trick yet 🙂

However, when I've reviewed  airports' list in the USA in reference to your method, I've also seen some "zero stars" non-empty airports.
I don't know why but it seems the non-empty airports also can get "zero stars" rating in XP11.
What's more - there are also other empty airports that have got "non-zero stars rating" status under XP11 - for example KSSN, KNHK, KFBG (and others) empty aerodromes that have got even 3 stars rating(!).

I thought rather about method you use to recognize empty airports  to color them as a grey on the map.
If such "grey" status could be written as an information in  a separate field (simple boolean value Empy/Non-empty) - it would be great solution.

Map tool works fine, although I thought about whether could it be better to change displaying buttons' behaviour.
At this moment displaying works in such a way that: the airports are divided into 3 separate categories - add-ons, hard surface, soft (water, ice, etc) surface.
Pressing one of these 3 separate buttons cause switching on/off given category on the map.
In addition, after pressing "empty airports" button it's possible to display also empty airports in given category - empty-addon, empty hard surface and empty soft surface.
So in summary it gives in theory 6 different categories, but in practice it's impossible to display only empty airports on the map, because "empty airports" button works only together with any of 3 categories and empty airports are always displayed on the map together with normal non-empty airports what cause the difficult with finding them on the map.

I think rather about changing of behaviour - replacing one empty button to two separate empty categories: one button for empty hard surface and one button for empty soft surface
(IMHO for add-ons it isn't necessary, if someone install add-on in simulator  it's rather non-empty, is it?).
And it could work in a such way - 5 buttons for displaying separate categories : add-ons, hard surface, soft surface, empty hard surface, empty soft surface.

That's are only my free thoughts about this subject, I always try to use the LNM as a kind of universal "swiss knife" tool 😄 and such features could give a possibility to find any problems in simulators' sceneries

Piotr

There is a flag in options "treat non-3D airports as empty". This might affect results. The idea behind is that parking and apron is not useful if there is not even a single building or other feature around the airport.

I have plans to add more display options for airports but this has rather low priority. More for a far future release, sorry.

No problem, it was only such a free idea 😄
