Solved: Missing STARs even with the correct AIRAC cycle

Featured Replies

I'm posting this in case it helps others users solve a problem I was having with missing STARs in Pilot2ATC.

Here's a quick summary of the problem I was having:

  • I'm subscribed to Navigraph so I have access to the latest AIRAC cycles (2106 at the time of writing this) in SimBrief.
  • I had updated Pilot2ATC using the Navigraph FMS Data Manager to the latest AIRAC cycle (again 2016).
  • I had confirmed that Pilot2ATC was showing the correct AIRAC cycle in its title bar (Navigraph - AIRAC cycle 2106).
  • However, when I tried importing a flight plan (EIDW->EGPH) created in SimBrief I was getting a total mismatch in STARs. For example, the list of possible STARs shown in Pilot2ATC for EGPH did not contain any of the ones I was seeing in SimBrief or Navigraph Charts.
  • It made absolutely no sense to me and I was pulling my hair out. I had nearly convinced myself that it was a bug and just something I would have to live with.

It turns out I'd made an absolute mess when updating Pilot2ATC using the Navigraph FMS Data Manager. I can't remember exactly what I did but it was something along the lines of uninstalling Pilot2ATC, reinstalling it to a different directory, and then updating the AIRAC again with the Navigraph FMS Data Manager without first rescanning the addon mappings.

The end result was Pilot2ATC showing it was on the correct AIRAC cycle in the title bar but it was obvious that the data wasn't actually correct.

To solve it I:

  • Uninstalled Pilot2ATC and then deleted the installation folder.
  • Ran Navigraph FMS Data Manager and removed the addon mapping for Pilot2ATC and saved the mappings (it's very important to save!!).
  • Reinstalled Pilot2ATC.
  • Rescanned the addon mappings in Navigraph FMS Data Manager, saved the mappings (again very important to save!!) and then updated the AIRAC cycle for Pilot2ATC.
  • Ran Pilot2ATC and confirmed that both the title bar showed the correct AIRAC cycle and the STARs I was missing were now there.

So if you're having a problem similar to mine it might be worth doing a full clean uninstall, reinstall and AIRAC cycle update just to see if that helps.
