July 19, 20214 yr Iceland – Part 2 The tour starts at Akureyri and proceeds north down Eyjafjörður before turning southeast towards Godafoss (GDF), then turning back north for the first landing at Husavik (BIHU). We continue by overflying the harbor at Husavik and the BakkiSilicon plant before heading east to Asbyrgi, then turning south passing Dettifoss and on to Mývatn. The next long section of our route takes us into the desolate, volcanic desert north of Vatnajökull National Park. Passing the massive Kárahnjúkavirkjun Hydro Power Plant, the route turns north for our next landing at Egilsstadir (BIEG). The remainder of the route is in the Austurland’s Eastfjords. Our first stop is the delightful small town of Borgarfjörður Eystri followed by a route that crosses many high ridges the separate that fjords, landing at the small airstrips located on the flat terrain near the sea. Our route finishes at Djúpivogur (BIDV). Pilots Guide and Flightplan: HERE Aircraft: The Cessna 208 Caravan is my choice for this tour. July 20, 20214 yr Looks to be a fun flight. Great Pilots Guide. Interesting to learn about the collection and treating of Eiderdown. Old School: With ingenuity and hard work, one can enjoy the marvels that Nature provides. New School: Icelanders exploit innocent ducks without obtaining voluntary consent or sharing profits. And later in the Guide, a very useful hot tip: "Extreme care should be taken if sea mines are found." --Mike MacKuen
