ATC handover before approach and land breaks communication

Hi, a new user here in a trial period. 

Had a pleasant 10hrs flight but right before the last ATC handover, the ATC cleared me to the STAR and transition and immediately asked me to contact the next ATC.

The copilot acknowledged the handover only, automatically (not the approach clearance), and changed the frequency as usual. The issue is that from that moment on, the controllers only did handovers to the next controllers and tower but never acknowledged the copilot check-in with "radar contact... ". In addition, tower did clear me to land but never asked to call on established and never asked me to clear the runway and switch to ground for taxi. Calling ground at that point - I always got the response of "please call with the correct call sign.." or something along this line.. Which I did but that didn't help. That all happened arriving into KORD. 

I wonder what broke the flow so I can avoid it next time.. Is it the double clearance of approach followed by an immediate handover and the copilot never read back the approach? Or is it a common/known intermittent bug?
