August 15, 20214 yr Hello, Specs: Dell G3 15 Laptop, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Graphics Card, Intel Core i7 Processor, 16 GB RAM, Windows 10 OS. About a week ago, I was attempting to fix a crash caused by right clicking after long flights. I tried to fully uninstall and reinstall the game by deleting all of the game files in my computer then uninstalling on steam. I forgot to delete the file located in the Documents folder, but deleted the "FSX" files in the Local and Roaming folders and the FSX folder in the Steamapps folder. Before this, the game worked completely fine apart from the aforementioned crash. After reinstalling the game, it can open and get to the setup screen but upon clicking "Fly Now" the game immediately turns into a black screen. No loading takes place at all. I have no scenery or traffic addons currently installed and never have had any such modes installed. The only two addons currently installed are the DC-8 Series 10-40 and DC-10 Addons from the steam page, both of which have been installed long before any issues began, so I highly doubt they are involved. I have attempted to do another complete reinstall, following the "How to Uninstall/Reinstall FSX" guide linked to in the CTD Guide and making sure to do everything properly with no success. Another issue with these crashes is that they rarely produce crash reports. Inspecting AppCrashView shows no crashes and the Event Viewer has only produced a crash report directly related to fsx.exe for one out of the dozen or more crashes. This report from 8-09-2021 lists "API.dll" as the faulting module. The API.dll report: Faulting application name: fsx.exe, version: 10.0.62615.0, time stamp: 0x559f9a9a Faulting module name: API.DLL, version: 10.0.62615.0, time stamp: 0x559f9ab5 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x00100043 Faulting process id: 0x28a4 Faulting application start time: 0x01d78d90064761a0 Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\fsx.exe Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\API.DLL Report Id: bf87bc9a-0a2d-416f-8886-ec2e586d8c71 Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID: Also seen frequently in the event viewer are "Kernelbase.dll" issues effecting a program called "AWCC.exe". Looking at the event viewer, these crashes have been occurring frequently long before my current issues began. Nevertheless, a couple have occurred around the same time that I have experienced crashes with FSX:SE, so I will include the most recent one from shortly after 1:00 in the afternoon of 8-14-2021 here: The "Kernelbase.dll" report: Faulting application name: AWCC.exe, version: 5.3.2.0, time stamp: 0x60c3e48c Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 10.0.19041.1151, time stamp: 0x891df6d3 Exception code: 0xc000027b Fault offset: 0x000000000010bd3e Faulting process id: 0x2854 Faulting application start time: 0x01d79137406f99c6 Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\DellInc.AlienwareCommandCenter_5.3.2.0_x64__htrsf667h5kn2\AWCC.exe Faulting module path: C:\WINDOWS\System32\KERNELBASE.dll Report Id: 723b8f66-004f-4f2a-ad48-5ff0db7c9f24 Faulting package full name: DellInc.AlienwareCommandCenter_5.3.2.0_x64__htrsf667h5kn2 Faulting package-relative application ID: App Another issue with the game is that I get locked into the black screen and cannot Alt+Tab or close it with the Task Manager. Whenever the game crashes, I am forced to Ctrl+Alt+Delete and Shut Down my computer in order to escape. This is annoying and time consuming and also prevents me from using the Process Monitor since it is forced to close during the shutdown. I am fairly certain that this caused by the settings being reset by the reinstall. Specifically, I usually play the game in windowed mode rather than full screen mode. During the first crash, it was still in windowed mode, but after fully reinstalling it, it is now stuck in Full Screen mode. I don't see any way of changing this in the set up screen settings. I have looked for some way of changing this setting in the game files but found nothing. I have attempted to run through the suggested fixes for the following in the CTD Guide as follows: How to fix most Freezes/Crashes Returning to Default configuration - FSX.cfg: I have tried both renaming and deleting FSX.cfg to no effect. - dll.xml and exe.xml: cannot locate. - Scenery.cfg: cannot locate. I have uninstalled and reinstalled FSX:SE multiple times via Steam and twice by means of deleting the various folders located throughout my computer then uninstalling on steam. If this hasn’t set FSX:SE back to its default configuration then I don’t know what will. - Run as Administrator: I am the only user of my computer - Move/Disable Modules in dll.xml: Cannot find dll.xml. The only addons present are the Steam Addons for the DC-8 Series 10-40 and DC-10. These are the first addons I ever got and long predate my current issues. These addons have never given me any issues before. - Disable/Remove Products Installed with Estonia Migration Tool (EMT): I have not used this tool. - Reinstall the latest Standalone Add-on Manager from FS Dreamteam: ? - Use the System File Checker to look for corrupt/missing files (AKA - SFC \scannow): doesn’t do anything. - Disable Tweaks: ? - Update Hardware Drivers: ? - Lower overclock: no NTDLL.dll or StackHash errors - Remove Overclocking: ? - Monitor Virtual Address Space (VAS): does not appear to describe current issues. - Run Process Monitor: Cannot use process monitor due to the screen being locked on FSX and being forced to shutdown and restart. - Check for corrupted user profile: no signs of a corrupted user profile. - Repair FSX, FSX-SE, or P3D: I have followed the steps for FSX:SE and verified the files. No issues were found. - Check Memory Simms/Modules: ? API.dll - Deleting/renaming FSX.cfg: does not work - Check Bufferpools Tweak: cannot find this parameter - AffinityMask Tweak: cannot find this parameter Freezes at Startup or While Loading Flight - Disable dll.xml: ? - Check Event Viewer for information: has occasionally shown API.dll and Kernelbase.dll issues, often returns nothing. - Check exactly where the event occurred while loading: crash happens the moment FSX:SE leaves the set-up screen. - Disable Photoscenery: cannot find scenery.cfg Kernelbase.dll - Settings too high: rebuilt config and lowered all settings to minimal in game with no effect - Updating or reinstalling video card drivers: ? - Scan for corrupt files: cannot open or run DISM - Disable Startup Programs: ? - Corrupted User Profile: No signs of Corrupted User Profile I cannot think of anything else to try in order to fix this issue. Thank you for any assistance.
