Salamanders in Kodiak

Featured Replies

Todays Flight is an Amphibian tour of the Northern half of Kodiak Island in Alaska. This will be a multi-stop multiple short legged route with a combination of water and land departure/landings with some amphibian activities at stops . We depart from the water at Port Williams (KPR) and hop southwest to Blue Fox Bay Seaplane base (BFB) for a water landing.  From here we depart SE to Waterfall Lake (PZ05) . We land on the 820ft grass strip (taking care not to land long, to avoid as steep descent into a field with a grumpy elk)  We taxi back down RWY04 into the drink (lake) to explore the shoreline before departing from the water. We continue on for 16 miles SE to Afognak Island Seaplane base (PZ02) for a 492ft Shale landing ( dont worry if you land long as you will continue into the lake, our departure point ) Next we depart from the lake and head W to Kitoi Bay (KKB) for a water landing. Next a short SW hop to Danger Bay (DGB) for an asphalt landing 🙂  Depart SE next for a water landing at Aleneva Seaplane base (AED). We depart and head SE for 20miles , to stretch our legs, to Kodiak Municipal (PAKD) for a quick refreshment and relief stop, We depart SW for an unfeasibly long leg of 1.9miles to Trident Basin seaplane Base (T44) for a water landing. We continue 3 miles to Kodiak (PADQ) for a tricky landing landing on 7500ft of asphalt. NW next to another land based stop at Port Lions (ORI) . NW departure to the water landing at Port Bailey (KPY) which used to be a famous salmon cannery until recent times. Continuing west we head to Viekoda Bay Bushport (VBY) for amphibian duties. sea, land, both , your choice. I will land on land and depart from sea . Next we head S to West Point Village (KWP) There is a 600ft grass strip, away from coast, if you fancy it or a water landing. Next a 1 mile water taxi south to our departure point at the southern end of West Point. From here we depart East to San Juan Uganik Seaplane base (WSJ) (a large fish packing facility by the looks of it)  for a water landing .  We takeoff for a 1.8 mile slog to NE Kodiak Bushport (NEKI) for a 540ft Shale landing ( with water at both ends 🙂  ) Final leg, of this section of Kodiak, we depart, by land or sea, up 11 miles into the snowy mountains to Kizhuyak Airport (KZH) an 820ft grass (snow) strip for a full stop and chill .
