DCD F14 navigation question; pitch rate question.

Featured Replies

(posted this also on the JF forum but got no response. Hope in this forum with broader public I will get a reply)

I have a question about the DC Design F14 Tomcat: how do you navigate in it? I know how to use the gps now (is there a flightplan page somewhere?), it cannot be edited in flight in believe. But I want also to use VOR in navigation, but cannot find how to select a radial and then fly it?

Another question: the plane rolls great, but pitch feels...weird.. somewhat laggy. I move my X52 stick, the stick in the cockpit moves in exact sync (so that is not the cause) but the plane first doesnt react the first degrees of movement of the in-sim stick. AFCS on or off makes no noticeable difference for me (does it work anyway?).

Hi Rene,

The F-14 has a much more advanced nav / autopilot set up than I would have created myself, thanks to my coder. You need to be in the correct mode ( NAV ) using the NAV/GPS switch on the left hand panel. This will allow VOR navigation. Using the display selectors will also provide further modes ( front right panel ) for cruise / landing etc. There is lots of extra information being added to the manual for an update about this, to bring it up to date. Check out the Microsoft forums too for the F-14 thread there.

The Tomcat pitches fine here - it's even possible to do the "pitch pulse" manoeuver that doubled for "hitting the brakes" in the Top Gun movie. However, MSFS does seem especially sensitive to controller set ups so it might just be something like that. ACFS does work, limiting G-loading and pitch/roll/yaw rates when switched on.

I will try the VOR plus course setting, saw a picture of it in post 376 on the FS Forum thread, so it is possible indeed.

I succeeded in getting the course needle indicator to work. I had to adjust with the ND button the display to show the right page.
