November 30, 20214 yr I picked up my flight simulator hobby after many years. My environment Windows 10 and FS9(fs2004). I am using youtube series of videos on flight planning especially on NDB : www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BsLcySHpmI&list=PLyC6aoYnRBZYsC3b92-dXXPuegigJHVpj&index=2. When replicating and using NDB frequency 397 flying from EHRD to EHEH the ADF indicator does not move at all. I am at correct altitude and nearby this NDB beacon. any idea ? ps. using NDB navigation anywhere in my FS9 Netherlands Country/Region does not work for me. rgds Ruud van Ruler
November 30, 20214 yr Ruud, What's the name of the NDB you are referring to ? Are you using the addon Netherlands scenery ? Groeten. Hans
November 30, 20214 yr Author Hans, it's 397 EHN and no, I am not using any addon Netherlands scenery. aircraft : Cessna C172SP Skyhawk rgds Ruud
November 30, 20214 yr Ruud, The EHN NDB has a maximum range of 38 Nm but EHRD is outside of that range. Are you sure that your Cessna-172SP was within 38 Nm distance from the EHN NDB ? I just flew a test flight from EHRD to EHEH in the default Cessna-172 and on a magnetic compas bearing of 132 degrees. As soon as I reached the 38 Nm distance from the EHN NDB my NDB needle moved correctly and even reversed as soon as I flew past this NDB. No problems whatsoever. If your problem persists then the only advice I can give you is to try another aircraft, e.g. the Mooney. Good luck. Hans
November 30, 20214 yr Author Hans, yes, I am sure I was in that range. I tried the Mooney. I navigated from EHRD to a nearby NDB beacon : ROT 350,5. Even then my NDB needle did not move. ps. using Cessna-172SP , flying in Belgium from Brussels (EBBR) to NDB ONW 355 gave me no issues. My NDB needle moved correctly. rgds Ruud
December 1, 20214 yr Ruud, The first thing you would want to make sure is that you have installed FS2004 as a "custom" install and that you have NOT installed it into it's default position. The reason for this is that the most unexpected and unpredictable issues can otherwise occur when running FS2004 on any Windows based machine afterwards. The only other possibility I can think of is that the NDB frequency you are using (397.0) is somehow incorrect and especially so when you say that navigating via NDBs in Belgium gave you no issues with the same aircraft. Normally, when entering any NDB requency on youy panel, you see two decimals and I must therefore assume that when you say "397.0", your NDB window actually displays "397.00". Sorry Ruud, but I cannot think of anything else which could solve your problem and I sincerely hope for you that other readers of this thread will chime in and come up with a solution. Good luck and regards Hans
December 1, 20214 yr Author Hans, as we speak I am reinstalling FS2004 from scratch as a custom install ... rgds Ruud
December 1, 20214 yr Author Hans, after reinstall I navigated from EHRD to a nearby NDB beacon : RR 404.5 And now my NDB needle did move correctly. What could be the cause ? rgds Ruud
December 2, 20214 yr Ruud, When FS2004 is installed in it's default (non custom) folders it automatically ends up in the "C" partition and in areas which are monitored as part of the Windows security system. As such Windows does not like many very normal FS2004 processes and can influence these in the most unpredictable ways. It's for this reason that FS2004 (or any other of it's versions) should be "custom" installed in areas outside the default ones, preferably in "D". There are many forum threads about diverse technical FS2004 problems and which were very often solved by uninstalling the default installation, followed by a reinstallation in a custom location. For safety reasons the same applies to any software to be used for (file) maintenance and other forms of FS2004 support. Anyway, I'm happy that I was able to help you. Happy landings and good luck.
