P3Dv5.3 Questions - Terrain Morphing and Jerking

Featured Replies

I’ll admit I’ve owned the license for this for years along with XP11 but haven’t touched P3D in years but this 5.3 has me VERY intrigued - performance on my new PC seems decent and usually quite smooth if I tone down my settings and lock to 30 FPS (I should add I use all the Orbx TE regions as I’ve grown addicted to orthoimagery).

A few questions..

Question 1 - my terrain elevations are all over the place and morph into shape even as I’m flying over them.  What setting controls this, or is this just a P3D thing?

Question 2 - When flying I’ll be zooming along smooth as glass at a locked 30 FPS then there is a jerk/pause (usually accompanied by a HDD rumble) as (I think) it loads up more goodies.  This is more pronounced in areas like Seattle or LA.  I have auto traffic set to zero but have ship traffic installed and (never content to let a smooth running sim alone) I’m installing “just a few” AI airlines from AIG (I’ll keep it to just Alaska and Southwest, I tell myself... 🙂 )

Question 3 - What is tesselation exactly and where should it be set, same with mesh?

My PC is a 10900K, RX6800 16GB, 32GB of RAM.

Many thanks!

Steve
