Upgrade from FS2004 to FSX

Featured Replies

I'm using FS2004 at the moment, and I'm trying to find out more about FSX before committing to buying and installing it - in particular I'm wondering:Can the addons designed for FS2004 be used in FSX ?Is the system of AI Traffic management the same, e.g. does it permit the use of more than one flightplan file, and if so, is the structure of a flightplan file the same as in FS2004 ??I don't particularly want to change to using FSX if it means ditching all the 1000's of add-ons (aircraft, scenery, sounds, and the rest), which I've downloaded since I purchased FS2004 some 3 or 4 years ago.

Some addons can be transferred directly across to FSX, but many can't. The only items I have successfully transferred from FS9 to FSX, or have obtained free updates for, are: - Ultimate Traffic AI- FS Global mesh - FSBuild- ActiveSky 6.5- a few non-FSUIPC aircraft.BTW, FSX has much greater system performance demands than FS9 but there is a patch (SP1) coming out next week that will hopefully tame the new beast.Gary

Just use FS9 & FSX as two different simulations, which is what I do.FSX has features that FS9 can't compete with, and visa-versa. At the moment, FS9 is certainly more frame rate tolerant, when lot's of AI & fully detailed airport scenery or complex cockpits are thrown into the mix. And yet FSX has much higher resolution textures for the ground, aircraft, cockpits and panels as standard, which I'll now never give up! :-hah L.Adamson
