Aircraft Texture problem????

Featured Replies

Aircraft textures do not show up and I have bare metal aircraft at times for some aircraft intermittently in either FSX or FS9.This is a new problem. I just implemented two things, and I don't know which brought on this reaction. I installed SP1, and also installed a second 8800GTX card. Some liveries seem to have the problem and some do not. If I keep trying, the ones that do not show up may kick in. So far there seems to be no particular ryme or reason as to when it happens and when it does not (with the same plane, and same texture/livery).This is at the point of aircraft selection only. Once the texture kicks in, it seems to remain. I have not noticed it on any default aircraft, but rarely choose them anyway. FSD Pilatus Porter, MAAM aircraft and others are intermittent upon livery selection. Some liveries seem to never have the problem. I thought this was unique to FSX, but just saw the same thing happen on the FSD Porter Pilatus.Has anyone else seen a similar situation and/or know the solution. Thanks:RTH ASUS P5N-E-SLI MotherboardIntel E6600 Core2 Duo CPUZalman CNPS7700-CU RT CPU Fam4 GB KST DII800 MemoryWinXP ProNVIDIA VCG8800GTX 768MB Primary Video Graphics Card21

Apparently all others who read this post were fortunate enough to have not experienced this problem, although I thought I remembered something like it in past posts. However, I could not come up with the proper wording in my search to find them.I just made a second reinstallation of FSX, SP1 and my few addons such as is available thus far. Same old Same old! This had nothing to do with the texture bit in question, but was another matter. In the event that this might help someone else in some way, I thought I would post my findings thus far. It seems that if I manipulate my screen resolution, I can get the textures to kick in. I normally run @ 1280 x 960 x 32, sometimes at 1600 x 1200 x 32. At these settings, sometimes the textures work, sometimes they do not on just certain aircraft, all of which are carryovers from FS9 (or before). The PMDG 1900D and Mamm aircraft are good examples of carryovers which have the texture glitch even though the suppliers have helped in the transition. The only aircraft I have which are confirmed FSX addon birds so far are the Eaglesoft CJ1 1.5 and Capt. Sim's 757. Neither of these nor the fSX defaults have had any problem.By reducing resolution to 1024 x 768 x 32 they sometimes kick in. They may be partial, complete, or not work here as well. I have also reduced my resolution to 800 x 600 x 32 which of course FSX will not accept. Then I raised it to 1024 x 768 x 32 and the textures kick in. Once they kick in, I can set the resolution back to whatever I want it to be, including 1600 x 1200 x 32 and everything looks fine. The first screenshot, Attachment #1 is a try at loading the bird which resulted in no problem, and with no special treatment at all with my settings at 1280 x 960 x 32. This was immediately after my update and I thought I might be home free. WRONG!The second screenshot, Attachment #2 is a later similar try in exactly the same way which resulted in the silver aircraft. After seeing the problem again as per the preceding second screenshot, the third screenshot, Attachment #3 is a try after reducing my resolution to 1024 x 768 x 32. Note the partial textures. It started to kick in but didn't make it all the way. Some trys like this have resulted in a complete texture problem free at other times. The fourth screenshot, Attachment #4 is of the bird with a 1600 x 1200 x 32 setting AFTER getting the silver bird to work with a 1024 x 768 x 32 setting. In short, playing around with resolutions gets the textures to kick in. Once done, they seem to work thereafter as long as FSX is up and running (SO FAR).Respectfully:RTH

Another manipulation that seems to work: If you see this problem it is worth a try at least.Cycle through other aircraft coming back to the desired bird until it kicks in useing the opening screen aircraft selection preview. Once you get a complete texture in the preview, it seems to work when selected (So far). If it is bogus, keep at it until you see the complete texture.I traditionally have "SHOW_OPENING_SCREEN=1" edited to be "SHOW_OPENING_SCREEN=0" in order to automatically startup with my default flight. Rather than doing this, implementing the opening screen in the FSX.cfg file gives the preview of the aircraft. I found that if I cycled through several times, choosing other aircraft and then returning to the desired bird that it kicks in (sometimes). This may take several tries. Some of the time you will see a partial where it didn't make it all the way. The MAAM DC3 United Passenger bird and FSD International Navajo Red, Blue, and Gold are good examples. Ironically enough, other liveries of these same aircraft seem to have no problem (none of the others for the Navajo).Regards:RTH
