March 21, 20224 yr I would love for the Transcontinental Airway System to be a mod. It was a navigational aid deployed in the US during the 1920s, predating the use of radio navigation. This map shows that there were 15 major hubs, each hub fed by local US Post Offices and the Railway Mail Service. Every 10 miles there were Arrow shaped concrete pads poured on the ground pointing towards the next heading, with a 53 ft tower and rotating beacon atop. Four smaller stationary beacons, one each corner, would flash the waypoint number in Morse Code. The spacing was closer in the mountains, and farther apart in the plains. The beacons were 2 million candlepower, and rotated six times a minute. Some buildings also served as weather stations. Many arrow markings were removed during World War II, to prevent aiding enemy bombers in navigation, while 19 updated beacons still remain in service in Montana. This would make a very relaxing, yet interesting cross country trip. I would suggest some generic water towers or train station type buildings with the town names prominently visible. Quote Technical[edit] Light, tower, shed, and concrete arrow So apparently, the mail beacons have been done in some rudimentary sim. The clip does kind of give you the feel of what it would look like to follow beacons every 10 miles. Imo it looks quite cool, and I would love an updated mod like this for msfs. I'd hit the hip to support development of it Edited March 21, 20224 yr by Waldo Pepper
March 21, 20224 yr Author I'd make the trip in the Waco, https://flightsim.to/file/6691/waco-ymf-5-nr46m-us-mail Edited March 21, 20224 yr by Waldo Pepper
March 21, 20224 yr I'd do it in - surprise - the Stearman. 😉 My 3d modeling skills are very limited, but I can do scenery design. If someone built suitable arrow and beacon models in blender, I could maybe do some of the placement. Andrew Crowley
