Screenshots - bmp versus jpg

Featured Replies

HiIs it possible in FSX to save screenshots (V-key) as jpg instead of bmp? (235 KB versus 5121 KB)OY

I don't think so, but it is easy enough to convert bmp to jpg using good ole paint if you don't have anything better.Gary

I use YAFSscreen ("Yet Another FSscreen") and have it set to JPG at the highest quality level. As a test example, a bitmap at 1024 x 768 comes out as 3 megabytes and the same image came out at 411 kb as the highest jpg (although this depends on the complexity of the image on screen (something with many details like city ground textures may be more in filesize whilst a shot with a sky background will be smaller). http://www.marian-aldenhoevel.de/YAFSScreen/If I take screenshots , sometimes I end up with as many as 150 and weed out the better ones after the flight (usually down to 20 best ones). I then crop, resize, sharpen and resave as jpg's (try to keep them to 80kb) from my graphics app.Saving them initially as jpg's saves a ton of temporary disk space 150 shots at 3megs is 450 megs! COmpare that to 150 x averaging 411kb shots = 62 megs
