Question about Turboprop handling and Departures

Featured Replies

Hi,

i seem unable to find a good tutorial explaining proper Turpoprop handling. Im just started to switch from the 172 to the Cessna 208 Caravan to learn a bit about Turboprops.

Now my question is:

How do i handle certain Situations when it comes to the engine?

Takeoff:

I set parking brake. Condition lever to high and prop lever to full. Then i increase throttle until the plane wants to go, then i release parking breaks. During Takeoff and initial climb i look that no engine parameter gets into the red.

On the Cessna 208 Caravan with the WorkingTitle G1000 the Torque shows a blue "thing", looks similar to the Heading selector. Does anyone know what this trys to tell me? It seems to move a bit depending on certain situations.

Once im at altituude i leave the throttle to full but reduce the prop lever so that i get 1700 RPM. All i do is look that all values are white or green and none is in the red.(Torque ITT, RPM).

So during cruise, should i decrease throttle and prop lever or only one of the two?

During a decend i dont know how to manage it. I want to reduce power so i dont speed up to much. Do i decrease throttle only? Prop lever only? Or both of them?

During landing i saw that you set the Prop lever to max. Is this correct? So you reduce speed only by reducing throttle and by using flaps?

And i have a small extra question:

During a Departure procedure with the WorkingTitle G1000.

At what point is it supposed to switch to my first enroute waypoint? I always have to delete the departure procedure manually and then activate the first leg, otherwise my plane in Nav mode flys the departure heading forever. ATC does not seem to help.

Thanks
