Antofagasta de la Sierra - Andes CVZ

Starting on the Pacifc coast of Chile at Chanaral (SCRA) the route proceeds eastward into Argentina.  We visit ten airports and cover 563nm enroute our final destination, Capitan V. Almandos Almonacid (SANL) in La Rioja.  Much of the route will be in the Antofagasta de la Sierra.

Antofagasta de la Sierra is the northernmost department of Catamarca Province in Argentina.  The department is most famous for its volcanic activity. There are over 200 volcanos situated in the Antofagasta de la Sierra volcanic field, the most notable of them being Antofalla, Carachi Pampa, Alumbrera and Galán.  The Galán volcano has the largest explosive caldera in the world.

Aircraft: The total route is 560nm and an aircraft capable of 260knts cruise will be needed to finish on time.  I plan to fly the King Air.  Warbirds such as the P-38 or Corsair would also work well.  As always you are free to fly what you like.
