July 22, 20232 yr It took a few sessions but I'm comfortable with the Beechcraft Bonanza to try something crazy. I work at a fully distributed company with employees all over the world. Starting tonight, I will be taking the Beechcraft Bonanza to virtually visit each one of them at the closest airport, flying over their location and snapping pictures. I will depart from my home in Lexington. KY and making my way to my first stop in Rochester, NY. Each session i plan to make at least one hop. My route (may include stops in between) Lexington to Rochester Rochester to Ottawa ON Ottawa to Portland, Maine. From Portland I will go up and cross via Greenland to Iceland. From there (complete route not determined yet) Sweden, Denmark, Belarus, Romania, Turkey, Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Togo, Uganda, Kazakhstan, Phillipines, up over the Bering Strait, Vancouver, San Francisco, Texas, Mexico, Colombia, Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Boston, NYC, Iowa then home to Lexington. I'm excited to try this and may share a Google Drive folder with pics from each stop for fun.
July 22, 20232 yr Author Did a quick hop from Lexington to Pittsburgh. Total flight time was just a bit over 2 hours. I got more comfortable with the mixture, prop RPM and the autopilot. I'm really enjoying this aircraft. It was a night flight cruising at 5500 feet. So nice and clear, the stars really popped out. I haven't determined my next hop yet but would like to go straight to Rochester. I've read this plane does best around 9000 feet so I may set up my cruise for that altitude and give it a go.
July 23, 20232 yr Author Not much time to fly today so it was another night flight. I only made the hope to Erie in hopes I can visit Rochester during the day. I should add im trying to use vatsim as much as possible. Been all unicom so far. Tonight's flight departed Pittsburgh and headed north to Erie. Another clear night. I did get up to 9500 feet but for such a short hop it was worth it. I bounced the landing which I was afraid of. I cane in too fast and too high. I should have done a full pattern to get set up. Lesson learned.
