So with a move back to the UK on the cards I would like to share a nostalgia flight to some of these 'rincons' ,or corners, with yourselves. We start in the coastal city of Málaga with the fourth busiest airport in Spain and fly eastwards along the Costa de Sol to the small airfield at Vélez Málaga (LEAX). From Vélez we fly inland to Jayena (LE84) which is an airstrip use solely by the anti fire agency. Onwards and upwards into the Sierra Nevada where we'll climb up the 'Poqueira Gorge' and past my house (3,000'). After admiring the 'Siete Lagunas' or Seven Lagoons and circling the 'Pico de Mulhacén' we'll pick up some exhausted walkers who have bitten off more than they could chew. They are waiting for us to pick them up at the 'Vivac de Caldera' refuge. This is the highest point in mainland Spain (Mulhacén)at 3479m or 11,414 feet. It's a short hop to 'Pico de Veleta' where we descend rapidly over the ski resort and village of Pradollano over the 'Canales' resevoir (crucial to the water supply of Granada) and into the city of Granada. We can check out the impressive 'Alhambra Palace' with it's beautiful 'Generalife' gardens, the Cathederals and the bull ring. We drop our tired walkers off at the Armilla air base (LEGA) and continue to Granada airport (LEGR). A quick stop at Aeroveleta Ulm (LEPN) and onwards, following the Autovia A92 to Guadix where there are a number of cave dwellings...cool in the Summer and warm in Winter. We continue to follow the A-92 to the 'Aerodromo de Gérgal' (LEGG). Onwards to the desert of Tabernas and 'Mini Hollywood' or Fort Bravo where we can land and have a cowboy fight before taking off for our last leg to Almeria airport (LEAM) via the small city.
