July 29, 20241 yr I've looked at the various tube-liner training/practice missions/utilities available but most look to be poor value or limited in applicability. Right now some of the VA Systems STAR missions are on heavy discount right now so I took a gamble on the JFK and Heathrow STARs. You get a set of missions in the Custom Content menu, in fact you get a LOT of missions, though in truth you get half a dozen STARs, each one with half-a-dozen standard weather preset options, and the whole lot is repeated for each of the default A320, 747 and 787. If you don't have the 787 the missions will clutter up your menu but you can't fly them. The mission loads you at TOD just before the STAR, with GPS and FMS flight plans loaded, but you need to program in the arrival runway, I was hoping for some training docs but nothing supplied - basically it's practice not training. And although branded VASystems the folder names suggest it's a SoFly product. Thankfully most of the files are unencrypted and you can modify the mission FLT file to change the aircraft used, at your own risk. You can also change sound files, images and text to improve the experience. I've had mixed results using more complex airliners...from loading with klaxons going through departing controlled flight/engines out to CTD...basically you need to tune the FLT file to your chosen airliner.. But what I really wanted was to have the FMS loaded and as very few support MSFS flightplans (not even the FBW A320 though it is supposed to, the CS 767 does actually load the FMS but that one has plenty of is own problems!) I've shelved it for now. The GPS plan is loaded and you can get the autopilot to follow the STAR but where is the fun in that? Can't beat the price (but gets expensive if you wanted many airports), though tools like FSStarter and FSiPanel are I think better (don't have them yet) though they don't do STARs as such and the best version of FSiPanel only targets aircraft I don't have. Would be interested in any experiences/suggestions (other than buy the other tools!). ...
