Traffic files

Featured Replies

Hi fellow simmers!

I am just wondering how one make a traffic file (like the ones used by world of ai) did. I find many special liverys that Im sure that are probably not included. I supposed the traffic tools

program is probably the one to go. Does anyone know how I would do the flightplans for the special aircraft? Thank You

If you want to set up timetables for specific aircraft, TTools is quite adequate.

As with any similar project, start small, get it working as you want it, then add a bit at a time.

There's a lot of accurate data entry necessary and one small "typo" can stop a whole "leg" working, so save and test regularly!

You also may need to ensure the airports of interest have sufficient parking of the correct type and/or parking codes, so you may need to become familiar with AFCAD or similar.

There are also a couple of utilities available to generate random ai movement, which are suitable for setting up a degree of background GA activity.

I use the TrafficDatabaseBuilder utility that came in the FS2004 SDK for this job.

I keep "random" GA traffic in one file and "scheduled" flights in separate files for each airline ... I find it easier to manage like that.

If you really want to learn making your own AI Traffic, then first start with simple things...

* Get the TTools downloaded, it's a very handy application...

* Download some old AIG Flight Plans (available at Avsim library) of small airlines. Don't jump into large airlines like British Airways, Air France, Lufthansa etc. It would become too complicated for a newbie... And don't jump into the latest flight plans as they always point to FSX repaints and thus you end with disappointment...

* Get a basic knowledge of the traffic.bgl.... Understand the philosophy of the aircraft, flight plan and airport files...

* Download some repaints from the repaints.txt of your downloaded AIG flight plan. Also download their base models...

* Last but not the least, compile the traffic files, install the AI Aircraft base model and it's repaint and your job is done...

I know it's not that easy as I said. But it's not too much tough also. You may face some compiling problems in TTools, so you just need to know how to overcome those... Later, you can learn how to convert FSX repaints to FS9 and then you can successfully use latest AI flight plans!

I hope this is enough for a quick start... Do let me know if you encounter any issue....
