October 17, 20241 yr I've started to fix little things in the sim. I've modded other games like Arma in the past, and I would like to know what some people think are problems that are often overlooked. Having got into the sim recently, I was discouraged by how the water runways were usually broken. Despite how accessible the scenery editor is, terraforming water airports had a lot of caveats and water taxiing bridges was a disaster. I was pleasantly surprised that MSFS had a lot to showcase with huge water improvements, and other stuff that showed they reached out to parts of the community, like the glider focus. If I start to release some addons, how do you think I should get feedback? I don't really use it too much myself, but I noticed all the tools that try to dynamically adjust sim rate with smooth turns were broken. So, I released Sim Rate Watchdog on flightsim.to. It got around 50 downloads, but no one really commented to say if it was working fine for them and if it was missing anything. I noted that it was a beta, and I was willing to improve it over time. The recent thing I've put together is a G3X AP menu compatibility for when it's controlled by external GPS, specifically the PMS50 GTN 750. With the external GPS giving guidance, I think you are supposed to be able to use the VNAV and APPR buttons from the PFD and default AP page, and they will actually arm themselves. I've created and tested that, but I wonder if it's missing anything to consider it a worthy addon even if the aim is to just improve compatibility at first. I'll also add that I thought the G3X looked awful at first even compared to the G1000 that doesn't exactly make you feel like you are in front of a real glass cockpit. Some of the planes that use it are still nice to fly though, so you can get used to it. Where do you think I should go for advice on modding or to talk to experienced simmers on what my mods may lack? What kind of things never really get fixed in the sim or what unique addons would take it to the next level? If you just want to throw ideas out, that's good too. Here's mine: I think there's obviously a lot of potential with what 2024 will offer. With the walking mode, I think you could probably make a mini-career mode (alongside the many career managers that will be preferred by various people) that resembles simple but interactive games like Derail Valley, where you are both delivering the goods and managing the cargo areas.
