Maximum Visibility

Featured Replies

Hello,In the old fs9.cfg file there was a setting 'MAX_UNLIMITED_VIS=x'.I used to modify this setting to give me 30 miles max visibilityat any time. My question is does anyone know if this can be donewith FSX.David. PS. I tried adding the old line to the FSX.cfg file.

As far as I know, visibility is maxed out on FSX, and that to reduce visibility, you add a "visibility layer" in your weather much like you would a cloud layer. If you clear all the weather, the visibility is extended as far as it will go. I've always liked the visibility range in FS9, as it made for easier atmospheric perspective effects, but the FSX system is more intuitive, I guess, and it works okay, just more mouse clicks to get things set up than I would like.Unlike older FS's, reducing the visbility in FSX will not increase frame rates, in fact, if you use bloom, you might even cripple frame rates with low viz.Jeff ShylukAssistant Managing EditorSenior Staff ReviewerAVSIM

Hi Jeff,Thank you for the reply and sorry for not coming back sooner.Im afraid i didnt quite explain myself properly... your reply hasmade me feel a bit dumb.:-badteeth What i meant is that if you download an area of weather and thereare stations indicating 30miles-unlimited visibility, with thisconfig edit FS will only actually display a maximum that you havepreset. Your very much right about visibility in FSX, it was alwaysone of my favourite tricks to bring the vis down for a performanceincrease.Oh well.:-doh Thank youDavid.
