March 3, 20251 yr So very interesting discovery while on my long haul tonight regarding Active vs Passive mode (Live weather) and blurries or "orange blobs" at night. A few weeks ago or months ago, time seems to accelerate as you age (LOL) I was having a discussion around how MSFSOG (2020) looks sharper than I have ever seen. I really had no idea what to attribute it to. I figured it was a byproduct of DLSS, Lossless Scaling and Frame Generation allowing me to increase TLOD and OLOD #'s and even posted screen shots to show how all my orange blobs were gone and textures were sharp for as far as I could see. Someone else commented that they had the exact opposite and the Alps were like illuminated orange blobs. Everytime I had flown over they were sharp. You could clearly follow roads from valley to valley as far as the atmosphere allowed. So fast forward to my long haul tonight and I hit the 149kt wind bug for injected weather using ASFS in Active Mode. Wanting to see the actual tailwinds I switched to passive mode which is essentially Live weather with ASFS effects on top. Immediately tailwinds started climbing through 165kts without issue. Everything was great, I was doing 655 kts across the ground. Then I hit land. Wow. A bunch of Orange blobs in the distance. They did eventually come into focus but it was unlike anything I had seen for as long as I could remember. I started wondering if it was server issues. Then I got to the Alps and it was EXACTLY as the user whose name slips my mind forgive me had mentioned. Illuminated orange blobs everywhere. It was horrible. I was about to exit out entirely then I remembered I had changed the weather depiction mode. Switched back to ASFS Active mode which is preset modes and sure enough the orange blobs IMMEDIATELY disappeared. The view went back to exactly as I remembered. So while it is FAR too early to state this definitively, it was one flight so I will have to repeat it and test some more but it appears that for SOME reason the texture sharpness in the distance was directly correlated to one weather depiction mode vs the other. I am back to Active mode and crystal clear texture resolution but can't have winds above 149 kts. Very interesting leading indicator as to why textures on my end have been so sharp vs others seeing illuminated Orange blobs. Live Weather... These shots were all taken with Active Mode enabled Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
