Tuning rate of climb AND level flight speed

Featured Replies

I have created a Cessna 172R and heve been trying to tune its performance to match the numbers in the POH. I can adjust (via FSEdit)thrust, power, and drag to get good results for correct rate of climb OR correct level flight speeds for throttle/RPM settings (e.g. full throttle at 8000ft should produce 2400rpm and 122KTAS). However, if rate of climb is right then level flight is too slow OR if level flight matches the POH numbers then rate of climb is too fast. Does anyone know any other parameters that can be adjusted etc. to allow rate of climb and level flight to be both correct? Any help appreciated.

Download either or both of the following:AirEd152 - http://members.dsl-only.net/~eagle/FDEditor - http://www.flightsimdownloads.com/FSEdit is using it own flight dynamics equations and probably modifying other parameters within your *.air and aircraft.cfg file that is causing your problems. Remember FS2002 and FSEdit will read what it thinks is an incompatible *.air file and copy those items from the *.air file and place them in the aircraft.cfg file. You need to be sure you have an acceptable *.air and aircraft.cfg file before you load it in fs2002. Always make backups prior to loading your files in fs2002.You need to use one of the above and stay away from FSEdit. Use Notepad or Wordpad (Wordwrap OFF) to make changes to your aircraft.cfg file.
