Umm... Where do I start?

Featured Replies

I've decided I want to take a shot at designing in GMAX. But, where do I start? I don't know how to manipulate the shapes or anything. I wish there was a tutorial. Thanks!

NW,If you have FS Pro edition, of course gmax is included. Go thru the install process and do the excellent tutorials included. These tutorials cover all the major tools and features in gmax. One of the final tutorials is to design a P-38.Once getting through this, you'll have a good idea on what to do and how. While going through the tutorials, you will have time to begin data collection on the aircraft you wish to design. There are plenty of additional tutorials available for specific tasks along the way. There are also several forums useful to gmax designers which provide help as you need it.So, do these things and the guidance will be there. I started in February and will soon deliver my first aircraft. The project has been very rewarding and intensely interesting, sometimes frustrating, and always challenging. This is a great hobby.Milton

Hi,As Milton says, the tutorials that come with gmax in the proedition are a good start point (in fact I started directly with the last tutorial, the P38). There is a lot of very valuable info, more tutorials and a must-read forum at www.freeflightdesign.comOnce you manage to make a simple shape, texture it and make it display in FS, then you'll have managed to overcome the most difficult point in the gmax learning curve. The rest will come, faster than you can imagine. Good luck.Paco
