December 27, 2025Dec 27 I'm still using the last of the Version 4 variants of P3D (I am very happy with it and do not wish to move to a newer version). Over the last couple of weeks I decided to experiment with the Nvidia Deep Learning DSR resolution. I am very happy with the visual results except that the font which displays on top of the AI aircraft (showing tail number, etc) is now a very "thin" looking font (so the "opposite" of bold) even though it is easily large enough for me to clearly read the information. All the other on-screen fonts (including the ATC panel, etc) appear absolutely perfect. Is there some file or setting I can change somewhere that defines what type of font is used for the AI information? I thought there was but a look around all the folders did not seem to yield any result. I will live with the font if necessary - as I say it is certainly big enough - but I just want it to be of a "bold" thickness rather than the thin appearance it currently has. And yes I know the desktop resolution versus the sim resolution does affect this (I have them both the same) but if I go altering that to make the AI font look right, it produces side effects elsewhere with the other fonts and size of text in the interface, etc.

December 28, 2025Dec 28 Author The fonts (all of them) look great at the DL DSLR 2.25x option but at that level I can only use 4 x sparse grid super sampling because of the performance hit. Since I hate even the tinniest amount of aliasing I am using the DL DSR 1.78x option with 8 x sparse grid super sampling. While that looks wonderful and a whole lot better by a country mile compared to DL DSR 2.25x at 4 x sparse and legacy DSR 4x at 4 x sparse, the font for the AI does not look as good. As I say though, in terms of compromises the AI font is a small price to pay for a fantastic looking moving image but I just hoped there was a way to manually adjust that one particular font. But I believe having gone through historic posts on several forums, the answer is no (at least for version 4 and earlier). At least it is large though - most complaints are that it is too small whereas my problem is bold versus standard appearance.
January 19Jan 19 Author After a good deal of experimentation I concluded that this cannot be resolved by the user. There is something that P3D v4.5 it does not like either with 2560 x 1440 resolution that causes the label font to become incredibly "thin" or there is some conflict with the DL DRS 1.78x setting that causes it. Since I do not have a native 1440p monitor to test this with, I don't know which of the two it is (the resolution itself or using DL DSR 1.78x to "fake" it) but I've settled on using DL DRS 2.25x instead which resolves the issue. There is not as much performance reserve of course but there still seems to be enough to be able to use it. I will have to assume it is a problem with the 1.78x setting since 1440p monitors are extremely popular and I am sure the issue would have come up before if using that resolution natively were a problem.
