August 22, 200223 yr This is a newbie question. I taking the P38 tutorial and once I finish it and get all the basics of Gmax down, i'm going to start my own project. But I'm having a problem, So far I've got a lot of it done, and I want to see how it looks in FS2002. Could someone tell me how to do this? I tried using MakeMDL but the import file has to be a *.x. I can't figure out how to make my a file a .x file. Does it have anything to do with exporting? Which brings me to another question, I can't export, the export options are grey and I can't click on them. But I can import. I read you can't export on the free downloaded version. But I got mine from FS2002, maybe its becuase I downloaded version 1.1? Can someone help me out please? Thanks in advance!!
August 22, 200223 yr Aerolee,Not to worry... glad you are going through the tutorials to familiarize yourself with gmax. The more you do the easier your project will be, with fewer mistakes.Gmax is looking for FsModelExp.dllFind it and Makemdl and put a copy in the Plugins folder. For other common errors you will eventually see, go to Chris Files site for help as well.http://thegreatptmd.tripod.com/Good luck and have funMilton
August 22, 200223 yr Author The FsModelExp.dll should be in your FS2002/gmax-install/Flightsim/plugins directory. It's put there by the FS2002 Professional installation.
August 22, 200223 yr Thanks for the replies guys! I did what you told me and now I can export as a .mdl or a .bgl, but when I run makemdl, it still gives me an error saying invalid .x file. I still need help. Thanks!
August 22, 200223 yr Aerolee,Go to Chris's site the link I gave you above. In your model folder where you are exporting to, there should also be a log file with the error messages contained. Read down through it and the last part is usually the meaningful stuff. Then go to Chris' site and check out the export errors.Milton
August 22, 200223 yr Author Sounds like you might need Chris' Middleman tool. It's at the aforementioned site.
