Part 2 Route Description

Departing New York LaGuardia (KLGA), we head to the George Washington Bridge, then follow the Hudson River north. The Palisades’ steep cliffs rise along the New Jersey shore, forming a dramatic canyon north of the bridge and offering views of the Manhattan skyline. After passing West Point, we land at Stewart International (KSWF).

We continue through the Hudson Valley, stopping at Old Rhinebeck (NY94) and Albany (KALB). Beyond the Mohawk junction, we pass Saratoga, where the pivotal Revolutionary War victory led to a formal alliance with France, before landing at Floyd Bennett Memorial (KGFG) in Glens Falls.

The route continues along Lake George, site of Fort William Henry and the setting for James Fenimore Cooper’s The Last of the Mohicans, then north to Ticonderoga between Lakes George and Champlain. Fort Ticonderoga, built by the French as Fort Carillon in the 1750s, guarded a key portage and figured in both the French and Indian War and the American Revolution.

We detour over the Adirondack high peaks to Lake Placid (KLKP), host of the 1980 Winter Olympics, then return to Lake Champlain at Plattsburgh (KPBG). A U.S. military site since 1814, Plattsburgh later became a Cold War Strategic Air Command base for B-47s, B-52s, and Atlas ICBMs; its runway could also accommodate the Space Shuttle.

Continuing north we cross into Canada and proceed to Montreal/Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau (CYUL) where we will transition into a helicopter or your preferred flightseeing aircraft for a tour city of Montreal.

NOTAM - the dfflyer Montreal payware below is nice enhancement as it adds 250 handcrafted points of interest, but Montreal is well depicted in the default Asobo photogrammetry,
