June 16, 200322 yr Rumor has it that the next update release of FSDS will have full DXT texture support. This will eliminate the need for two sets of textures: One for developing and one the actual sim. You will be able to apply and view DXT textures in FSDS. Look for it very soon. I believe it will be free for existing FSDS 2.x users. Also, look for a few other cool enhancements. Davewww.daviator.com
June 17, 200322 yr FSDS2 will now also support my VC Gauge backlighting technique using Emissive Texture mapping as well... :)BillAVSIM OmbudsmanFounder and Director,Creative Recycling of Aircraft Partshttp://catholic-hymns.com/frbill/FS2002/images/fartslogo.jpg
June 17, 200322 yr I'm wondering if the landing light/effects bug is going to be addressed. It'd be great if we could get FSDS 2 in full compliance with the SDK...-John
June 17, 200322 yr I agree John. That would almost need to be a required fix. Almost... ;)Just dreaming for a moment, it would be really wonderful if we could have a key frame animation viewer in FSDS2 similar to whats in ****. (gg)Dee Waldron (HJG)

June 18, 200322 yr Author Bill, does your tutorial work for this tweak to FSDS or are there a few extra steps?Brian
June 18, 200322 yr >Bill,>>does your tutorial work for this tweak to FSDS or are there a>few extra steps?Brian, the end result of the technique is the same, but obviously the precise steps within FSDS2 are different than GMax. To be more specific, it simply involves ticking off the box in FSDS2 when you assign the $dummy diffuse texture name that it also has "Lightmap with Alpha" instead of just "Lightmap." The end resilt is that the name is listed in the box as "$dummy,A" instead of "$dummy" or "$dummy,L"This can be a bit misleading to the unwary, since the effect is genereated by the master channel of the .bmp file, which may or MAY NOT have an Alpha channel! :)But, I'm certainly not complaining, as Louis worked diligently - and I might add swiftly! to find and squash the bug preventing this from working! From my initial report of the problem to the fix took just shy of one week... Try getting that kind of response and support from Discreet... :)I've asked Bob Hayes - the modeler of the Premier I from Eaglesoft DG - to collaborate with me in revising the existing tutorial to include the FDSD2 specific steps.BillAVSIM OmbudsmanFounder and Director,Creative Recycling of Aircraft Partshttp://catholic-hymns.com/frbill/FS2002/images/fartslogo.jpg
