Make MDL and Exported .X files

Hey everyone!:-waveI seem to be unable to use MakeMDL to compile .X files exported from 3ds max 5.1. I keep getting errors such as "zero normal encountered in part fuselage" or "colocated vertices found in triangle (insert any number here)". The thing is, though, when I export the file as a .3ds, then open it in gmax, everything works fine! Well, everything did work fine. Starting yesterday, makemdl started to tell me it either couldnt find itself, or that it couldn't compile the model (the premier 1). Help me plpease!!!!
