Terrain view detail

I use the terrain view code from the GPS cab file to show the terrain in my MFD. It used to have nice detail showing all the terrain ridges and shadow. I had to reinstall FS2004 and now the terrain is just a bunch of small blurry rectangles. How can I get the good quality graphics back? I've played with a lot of sliders, but now I'm lost.
