Best way of recording sounds

I want to know what king of device people use to digitally record engine sounds to make into a sound set. I just want something simple and inexpensive, but digital and easy to plug into a computer. What do the vets use? :)Thanks,Scott

Think of recording sound as the opposite process to playback. The quality of playback depends predominately on the quality of the speaker. In a recording environment, it is the quality of the mic that will ultimately dictate the quality of the recording. As with audio playback equipment, purchasing recording equipment is strictly a matter of personal taste, feature requirements and budget. Obviously you can spend a great deal of money on digital recorders, mixers and equalizers. With a good quality mic and some decent software, however, a modern laptop equipped with an Audigy 2 is more than capable of recording dvd quality sound. You need not spend a lot to get some surprisingly good results.Sorry if its sort of vague, but IMO audio perception is very much a subjective interpretation and there is no single right answer. You need to decide for yourself what you like, need and what you want to spend. Just remember the rule of thumb ... it's the mic you like.Shad
