Aliasing MODEL and PANEL folders

Featured Replies

I don't come in here often so forgive me if this post covers issues well known to you gauge experts.I have only recently discovered that, in addition to PANEL and SOUND folders being able to be aliased from another aircraft's folder, it is possible to:1. Alias all the bitmaps only of another panel folder when panel folder no.2 is in the same aircraft's folder. This enables the user to have nothing but a PANEL.CFG file in a second panel folder which can have a different gauge configuration, or even a few, but not all, different bitmaps as desired. The point of this is that it saves major duplication, as most views etc. can be aliased. An example of this is:file=../panel/C47_PILOT_IFR.bmp rather than:file=C47_PILOT_IFR.bmp Works a treat!2. Alias MODEL folders from another aircraft. This is VERY handy, when for example you want to have one aircraft's AIRCRAFT.CFG file set up for standby radios, different fuel tanks, whatever, and want to save a few megabytes on not having to duplicate the model file.An example of this is to construct the MODEL.CFG as follows:(fltsim) ........in square brackets, of coursealias=MAAM-SIM DC-3 PassengermodelAlso works a treat. What I have NOT been able to achieve to date, but want to, is aliasing a panel as in 1. but from another aircraft i.e. from OUTSIDE the primary aircraft's folder. Is this possible? If it can be done at all, as above, surely it's just a matter of identifying the right syntax? Or can aliasing not jump up a tier? Thanks for any input, gurus. Mark,To use a bitmap resident in another aircraft panel folder, you would use syntax something like:file=....C182panelcessna182.bmpDoug

Thanks a million, Doug! I sure wish I had worked this out about twenty uploads ago! That's great.I suppose there's no loading or FPS penalty doing things this way?MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a]
