Wilco Tower Simulator 1.2

Recommended Posts

FolksFor anyone interested, Wilco have now released the latest patch to their genetically flawed Tower Simulator. Patch 1.2 claims to have tackled the Dash-8 profile at TNCM - now making it STOL - and also adjusted other aircraft speed while in the air. I'm sure most other customers will roll their eyes and wonder why Wilco/FeelThere have bothered with such inconsequential detail, while the sim suffers - no dies - from so many more fundamental issues.Watching the 71mb download last night I was excited to see a bunch of sound files apparently being updated, but as soon as the first a/c called for taxi at Munich, it was clear nothing had been done with the AWFUL voice. Although, to be fair, some of the Lufthansa callsigns were no longer pausing for 2 seconds in the middle of the readback of their taxi instructions - why only the DLH callsigns, is anybody's guess. Otherwise the AI voice remains prototypal 1980s and WAY, WAY poorer than an expensive title in 2008 should be sporting. While waiting for the first a/c to reach the runway to see if anyone had tackled the improbable take-off profile of the various types, I was again reminded how flimsy the program is, watching a variety of aircraft models taxy past jumpily. Oddly, the pushback is very smooth, but thereafter the aircraft behave nothing like the real thing. Which leads me to the take-off; some aircraft DO perform in the way the programmers have designed them, but they tend to be F16s or Stinger missiles - your average commercial airliner lifts off steadily, normally in a shallow climb. Dare I say it again Wilco, but download a copy of BAO's Tower, get some tips, and be ashamed.

Actually, they modeled the sim after the 1990s BAO Tower program. It was good in its day, but feelThere missed the approach with this one. All this great technology and weather effects, can never overcome poor interface and gameplay design.
