FS2004 Panel Sounds

Recommended Posts

Guest flightplan

Hi,I downloaded a nice freeware panel and would like to change some of the sounds associated with the switches. I have looked at the panel.cfg file and there doesn't seem to be any sound assignments. Do the *.gau or *cab contain the sound assignments? If so, are there any programs that allow editing of these two files?Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.Tom

Hi Tom,That depends on the gauges used.In general, there are three types of gauges:1. .gau gauges with built-in sound. No way to change those sounds.2. .gau gauges that have a builtin reference to a sound file, usually in the main /sound folder. In that case you can simply replace the .wav file with another one with the same name.3. .xml gaugesThese gauges don't have the possibility to play sound directly, but they usually use a gauge created by Doug Dawson (dsd_xml_sound.gau) to play sounds. Somewhere in an .ini file belonging to this panel, that you can change yourself with Notepad, there is a reference to the used sound files.Beware though: when using other sound files, timing (sound length) may be important because it might be used in the .xml gauge to time things (like play sounds in succession).Cheers, Rob Barendregt

Hi,Thanks, Rob, for your response which clarifies the gauge/sound connection. It appears as though my panel/gauge sounds fall into the first category. Thanks again.Tom
