Black texture question?

Recommended Posts

Guest

If I made an object in FSDS and then apply a texture on it, with a black space on it, it will later be transparent in FS, but if I do the same thing in a gmax object with same texture the black space on the texture will NOT be transparent in FS, how can i made that in gmax?? to made the black spaces color in the texture be transparent in FS from a gmax object and so on???Hope you know what i mean here..;)))Many thanks!/Philip Nordlander

You can make any part of the texture (so not depending on the color) transparant by adding an alpha channel. The color value in the alpha channel then determines the level of transparancy (black completely transparant and grey scales used for differetn levels of transparancy).I usually create the texture and the alpha channel togethet in my paint program and then save it in a format that supports saving an alpha channel with it (TGA, PSD). ImageTool can also load these formats, so you can easy convert it to a DXT texture that way.Arno

I don't think FSDS does it fully automatic too, but that's not the question here :).You must add an alpha channel to the texture. It will have the black color for the parts you want to be transparant and white for all other parts. This has nothing to do with GMax, but is just preparing your texture for FS.Arno
