September 12, 200223 yr Hi,Yesterday i reinstalled some of my old UK2000 scenery and patched it.Wasn't all that impressed with the ground textures so decided to improve them.Turned them from 256 colors into 16 bit(555) enlarged them and retouched. It looks quite good now, thing is...the 'edges' also show.Say there's a 512 x 512 onlt left side is used, right side is black and would normally be masked by the default FS2002 terrain...but that doesn't work for the new textures...so those areas also show.I could fill those areas up with grass textures but then it won't blend in to the default FS2002 nicely, all square and such.Anyone any clue on how to solve this or would that mean messing with the bgl files? Thanks
September 12, 200223 yr Author Commercial Member The black area will not become transparant by default. Seems while editing the image you destroyed the alpha channel. So you will have to make a new one and that will give you back the transparancy.ArnoMember Netherlands 2000 Scenery Team[a href=http://home.wanadoo.nl/arno.gerretsen]http://home.wanadoo.nl/arno.gerretsen/banner.jpg[/a] Arno If the world should blow itself up, the last audible voice would be that of an expert saying it can't be done. September 12, 200223 yr Hi,Thanks for the reply but that's just the thing.I am using an alpha channel..the apha channel properties in the 'imagetool' utility show 'alpha' first and after conversion to 16bit it says 'colorkey'.In the alpha channel the mask color is black and only covers the area that needs the default FS2002 terrain to show 'through'..the rest of the alpha channel is white, kinda baffled here.Cheers
September 12, 200223 yr Hi,Just had a thought. When i try to open the original files that have 'masks' in imagetool i get a "can't open file - corrupted image dimensions" error.Since this UK2000 stuff used to be for FS2000(although patched for 2002)is it possible they have used a different way of incorperating their terrain bitmaps?
September 12, 200223 yr Author Commercial Member You should be able to open all extended files that work in Fs2000 with ImageTool. Sounds stange to me this.ArnoMember Netherlands 2000 Scenery Team[a href=http://home.wanadoo.nl/arno.gerretsen]http://home.wanadoo.nl/arno.gerretsen/banner.jpg[/a] Arno If the world should blow itself up, the last audible voice would be that of an expert saying it can't be done. September 12, 200223 yr Well, the orginal ones with masks(if they have masks)won't open in imagetool.Anyways, i'm really scratching my head here. The field has two levels of textures, one for low alt and one for high alt.I apply the mask to both pics for that area...and gave each level it's own coloured dot so i know which texture i'm looking at.Start it up, hover above the areaAt low level, with the first level texture, there's still no FS2002 terrain in the masked area.At a 1000 meters orso the second level texture kicks in and still missing the FS2002 terrain blend in in the masked area of level 2 texture. Then all of a sudden at 3000 meters the FS2002 terrain pops in the masked area and it all blends nicely together...and at that point it is still the same second level texture cause the colored dot is still showing.Really don't get it.
September 12, 200223 yr Author Commercial Member Sounds a bit like a mip mapping problem. Are you sure the mip maps are added correctly?ArnoMember Netherlands 2000 Scenery Team[a href=http://home.wanadoo.nl/arno.gerretsen]http://home.wanadoo.nl/arno.gerretsen/banner.jpg[/a] Arno If the world should blow itself up, the last audible voice would be that of an expert saying it can't be done.
