December 11, 200223 yr Hi all,I'm kinda new to this forum, and to scenery design (thanx to Arno to introduce me to this). I would love to know what is possible with gmax, and what isn't. So what I mean is like runways, is that possible? And groundtextures on that airport, is that possible, etc. Thanx very much in advance,Jurgen
December 12, 200223 yr It is very frustrating especially for the newcomers to have those dreaded 0 replys 0 views. Therefore I start the answer to your question, however doing so, I do not want pretend to be alpha and omega in subject matter. I have limited experience in gMax >1year and 3+ sceneries completed. Generally , I would suggest to utilize all scenery tools available rather than trying to limit it to one, no matter how advanced or good it seem to be. To make it short it has been general consensus that gMax is wonderful 3d modelling tool, but does not fare very well as a groundmaker. So it seems necessary to work with at least one of the groundmakers, which FSSC is my personal favourite. I use the same background map or sattelite photo for FSSC and gMax (top view). I make all runways, aprons, taxiways, taxilines etc., etc in FSSC. At the same time I create single models of all stationary and animated objects in gMax later to be merged into one final and complete scene using background map as a base reference for locations. I avoid using any macros except M$ and my private library objects, fences and trees. That is ALL.... Thank you for attention.Ted
December 12, 200223 yr Author Commercial Member I agree with Ted.GMax is a great program for 3D objects. If you place these objects in a object library with FsRegen you later place them with a macro in your scenery. But GMax doesn't allow you to make a runway, ILS, etc. It can draw ground polygons, BUT the code it produces is meant for 3D objects and not for flat ground polygons so you will get problems with that. This can be solved by hand editing the source, but I think it is easier (and maybe even faster for the performance) to use another scenery design program to do that.I used GroundMaker before, but as that is not updated anymore (it seems to be that way at least), I have now switched to FSSC and I really like that one.ArnoMember Netherlands 2000 Scenery Team[a href=http://home.wanadoo.nl/arno.gerretsen]http://home.wanadoo.nl/arno.gerretsen/banner.jpg[/a] Arno If the world should blow itself up, the last audible voice would be that of an expert saying it can't be done. December 14, 200223 yr Hi,I have another question to submit, related to this topic:I use Airport 2.60, and I am rather satisfied of it. I'm waiting for the 3.00 version but it isn't near to come.Is FSSC a better choice than AFW, expecially thinking about the next releases of FS?CiaoAndreaAndrea Paties [email protected] member-SDhttp://www.isdproject.com
December 14, 200223 yr Author Commercial Member I think the latest version of Airport and FSSC are equivalent. They both have about the same set of options and as far as I know both are not yet ready for the next version of FS (as there is no next version yet it is hard to tell what must change of course).ArnoMember Netherlands 2000 Scenery Team[a href=http://home.wanadoo.nl/arno.gerretsen]http://home.wanadoo.nl/arno.gerretsen/banner.jpg[/a] Arno If the world should blow itself up, the last audible voice would be that of an expert saying it can't be done.
