Temperature controlled steam

Recommended Posts

Guest hefy_jefy

So, I have a large power station nearby and, after some tweaking of fx_steam1.fx, the steam from the stack looks great on a cold, still morning, also OK when the wind picks up.Is it possible to change (or load a different) fx file depending on the air temperature?I thought it might be done via the fx controller, but I can't find any mention of how in the SDK.Geoff

I think this will be hard to do. I haven't found a variable yet that allows the scenery to see the temperature. I would like to use it for some other effects in my scenery as well, but I think it is impossible.Arno

If the world should blow itself up, the last audible voice would be that of an expert saying it can't be done.

I know nothing about scenery design, unfortunately, so I have used FSSE to build some power stations. Would it be easy for me to add some steam/smoke to the towers? How?CheersBaz

How? >>Cheers >>Baz Helllo there Baz,If you do not know much about scenery design, I think the easiest way to insert smoke effects into FS2002 is by using FS FX (a program that with an easy interface lets you choose what effect to use, and choose between some simple parameters, e.g. time of day, date...). FS FX outputs the files in API-format. Then this API-file can be inserted in programs like Airport for Windows, FSSC or GroundMaker. Then you need to know some basic stuff about the ground editor you choose from that list, but the learning curve is not steep at all - after all you only need very basic knowledge in the program to place a "custom 3d-object/API" at certain coordinates and height.Hopefully this helps a bit.../Sebastian

Sebastian, that helps a lot, thanks. Though whether I will be able fathom it out is another matter. I did say I know nothing about scenery design and you could add "absolutely" to that.Where do I find FS FX?Baz
