Airspace in Europe

Is anyone able and interested in updating or fixing the airspace control zones / areas in Europe?I'm no expert in ATC at all, but yesterday I took a flight from EDDL (D

Our scenery team (NL2000 Team) is trying to correct the things for the Netherlands, but untill now we still have some problems with it (Fs2002 still seems to use the old data). Maybe if we get everything to work fine, we can provide some tips on how to do it (I have also made a little tool to make the things visual, when everything works I'll probably release that too).Arno

Hi!I am also interested in correcting airspace for Slovenia because here the things are completely different than in reality. Pilot takes of from RWY31 from LJLJ airport and when it is 30km from LJLJ (and still has to flew around 50 to come from Slovenia) it is given to Vienna?! Arno,nice to see someone already working on this topic. :-)However, I think a pure country by country solution is not the optimal way. Let's join forces! In Europe there is so much overlap in ATC areas, just look at Maastricht, which controls upper airspace of the Netherlands, Belgium and northern Germany. Despite this, in FS2002 I have to contact dozens of different centers.After reading Christian's short tutorial, my impression was it must be quite easy if we only would get the proper coordinate sets, but maybe I'm completely wrong. And I wondered why there weren't any updates yet to see in the file libraries except for New Zealand.So, is there any good (and free) data source to find on the net? What kind of data do the online atc simmers use?Regards,Claudius

Controlled airspace dimensions are easy to obtain but are normally defined in Lat/Long. Pro Controller also uses Lat/Long for drawing airspace so there is no real problem - except the time taken :)I wrote to Christian a good while back but was too busy then to write an idiot proof manual - which is what I would need. I couldn't work out the code at all..The real problem is that you would have to create a totally new "map" for ATC - not just create ATC zones and TMA's. Aircraft call an airfield or centre well before they enter the airspace - in many cases they have to to get clearance to enter the airspace. Maps could therefore be much simpler than the complex shapes of some zones - but it would also mean that no single design of the R/T areas could be considered as definitive..boneshttp://fsaviation.net

Hi Claudius,Might indeed be a good idea to make a European project from this. At the moment we are trying to do it for the Netherlands for the NL2000 Project and as a sort of test.What we did is we used the decompiler from Christian to get the source from the origional files. Then I wrote a little tool to make the content of these source files visuable. After that we checked all the coordinates against the data we found in the AIP of the Netherlands. The coordinates were rather accurate, but only the altitudes and airspace times were wrong often. That are the kind of things we changed.The biggest problem we now still have is that even with this new file loading, FS still uses the old types of airspace now and then. Once everything is working fine it shouldn't be that hard to expend such a project to Europe (the AIP data must be available for each country, just find a pilot who has it :)).Arno
