Transparent Custom Textures

Featured Replies

Hallo, with the resample.Exe ( SDK 2002) i have created some Custom Terrain Textures. Some of the bmp.s have a black border. I have saved the bmp.s as 8-bitand then i have made the images transparent with BSP2000 by Martin Wright. But the background was always "water". How can i change this ?The "optical" background outside the the custom textures is desert, and that is what i want.Is there a solution ?Please step by step, because i'm a beginner in scenery design. Many thanksWolfgang

Hello Wolfgang,As you have discovered, any transparency in images applied using the resample method is rendered as water. If you want to have a ground texture that blends smoothly into the surrounding default textures, you have a couple of options. The first is to do the same resample as you did before, but actually create master texture bitmaps that also include the surrouding textures -- just blend them in using your favorite image manipulation program. Just on the face of it, this would seem to be a little tricky (I've not tried it) but certainly doable. The second method is to create your terrain textures as VTP polys instead of using resample.exe. There has been a lot written about this method in this forum, so I won't rehash it here. The good news is there are several tools that can help you considerably when creating these polys. Three that come to mind are LWMDraw, Coastline Maker and Ground2k. If you do a search on any of these here, you'll find a lot of useful information.Hope that helps!

wolfgang, as Bill has said, the alpha channel was designated by ms to produce the water effect, so you can't anylonger use it for transparency. The black borders, however, can be eliminated, just switch over to the resample.exe that came with your fs2000 scenery sdk. With that you'll also need tmf2bgl.exe, which also comes in that sdk.fs2000 resample.exe outputs tmf file, tmf2bgl outputs bgl.Bob Bernstein

Hi Bill, Hi Bob,thanks for the hints. My mistake was to use the new resample.exe. With the old one i haveno problems any more.My next step is to learning the way of Ground2K & co.best regardsWolfgang
