Lighting Effects

Recommended Posts

I am trying to use effects to make the lighting for some street lights in Fs2002. I'm using the fx file that came with the Oskosh scenery and the Darrington scenery only I would like it bigger. Problem is, I can't get it to show at all. I'm using the BGLplacer that came with FS2002 to place it. I can put smoke, fire, allmost anything there except the lighting effects. What am I doing wrong?Here is a copy of the FX file I'm using:[Library Effect]Lifetime=5Version=2.00Display Name=Orange DotRadius=50Priority=0[Properties]Cockpit=1VirtualCockpit=1Spot=1Tower=1Map=1[Emitter.0]Lifetime=0.50, 0.50Delay=0.00, 0.00Bounce=0.00Rate=1.00, 1.00X Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00Y Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00Z Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00Drag=0.00, 0.00X Particle Velocity=0.00, 0.00Y Particle Velocity=0.00, 0.00Z Particle Velocity=0.00, 0.00X Rotation=0.00, 0.00Y Rotation=0.00, 0.00Z Rotation=0.00, 0.00X Offset=0.00, 0.00Y Offset=0.00, 0.00Z Offset=0.00, 0.00Pitch=0.00, 0.00Bank=0.00, 0.00Heading=0.00, 0.00[Particle.0]Lifetime=0.00, 0.00Type=19X Scale=10.00, 10.00Y Scale=10.00, 10.00Z Scale=0.00, 0.00X Scale Rate=0.00, 0.00Y Scale Rate=0.00, 0.00Z Scale Rate=0.00, 0.00Drag=0.00, 0.00Color Rate=0.00, 1.00X Offset=0.00, 0.00Y Offset=0.00, 0.00Z Offset=0.00, 0.00Fade In=0.00, 0.00Fade Out=0.00, 0.00Rotation=0.00, 0.00Ground Normal=1Shade=1Static=1Face=0, 0, 0[ParticleAttributes.0]Blend Mode=2Texture=fx_Dots.bmpBounce=0.00Color Start=255, 255, 255, 200Color End=255, 255, 255, 255Jitter Distance=0.00Jitter Time=0.00uv1=0.00, 0.50uv2=0.50, 1.00X Scale Goal=0.00Y Scale Goal=0.00Z Scale Goal=0.00Extrude Length=0.00Extrude Pitch Max=0.00Extrude Heading Max=0.00Thanks Joe Watson

Hi Joe.I tried your FX file, and it's fine, as far as I can tell.I think the problem is that the effect must be placed at a specific elevation. The "snap to ground" doesn't work for it. I don't know why not.You can also edit the CSV files with notepad, to fine-tune placement for elevations and locations.EFFECT,Myfx_OrangeDot.fx,N42* 37.7417',W88* 35.986',304.0625,0.00,0.00,0.00,Very Sparse,""EFFECT,Myfx_OrangeDot.fx,N42* 37.72',W88* 35.99',299.0000,0.00,0.00,0.00,Very Sparse,""The first dot is on top of an "advanced" building. The second dot is on the ground, but not specified as AGL. Note how you can adjust the location to several decimal places. It also appears we can't scale an effect with it's placement. That seems odd to me, but it can be scaled ( sized ) in the fx definition. I don't know if placing it with SCASM or BGLC would allow scaling.Dickhttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/5492.jpg

Thanks Dick for the quick reply. I would have never thought to change the "Snap to ground" thing off. But.... It still doesn't work for me. Here is the entries:EFFECT,fx_OrangeDot.fx,N46 36.07914,W121 40.73357,1053.00,0.00,0.00,0.00,Very Sparse,""EFFECT,fx_OrangeDot.fx,N46 36.07015,W121 40.70533,1053.00,0.00,0.00,0.00,Very Sparse,""The elevation is right, I know, cause I got a flatten there to that elevation, or would that kill it?I tryed to use the program of Matthias Bruckner, 'FS Effects' that makes an API of the effects and that doesn't work either. I have tryed to set the elevation in Airport after I place it. still doesn't work.Must be the 'Flatten'.Joe W.

Hi Joe.I think you entered the elevation as feet. The elevation needs to be in meters, which should be about 321.00... hope that works. :)Dick

That did it!.... I learned one other thing..... HOD=20,7 works. Having DAWN and DUSK And NIGHT in the same effects line doesn't....Again..... Thanks Dick...Joe W.

Hi Joe.Glad it worked. I was making separate effects entries for Dawn, Night, Dusk... the range for HOD seems a better solution. So we both learn something... now I wonder if multiple HOD parameter entries are allowed? Edited============No... only one set of HOD parameters is allowed per entry... just like only one use of either DAWN, DAY, DUSK or NIGHT is allowed per entry. :(Dick

Hi all.As long as we're speaking effects...The module "visualfx.dll" has an effects editor fleshed out, easily seen when viewing it's resources ( I use "ResHacker" ). CFS2 also has a version of this editor. I don't know if there is any way to activate it from within the sim.Dick

HOD=20,7 ...they come on but if you leave or change the time, you lose them. I have two entries now. one for 20,23 and another for 0,7 that seems to work ok. I noticed that the more effect entries you have, the dimmer they get... I'm gonna try to have 1 bgl for the 20,23 set and another for the 0,7 set and see if that makes them a little brighter.ThanksJoe W
