Ground2K4 Question

Recommended Posts

It looks pretty cool. I've been to Guam several times, and we were just talking about Guam/Saipan the other day. Of course, it had to snow today, so I am about as far away as I can imagine...Oh, yeah... the problem. :) I've had this problem before, so I think I can narrow it down. You need to do a few things so that Ground2K can fill in the area properly. The first thing to check is the Area Attributes (it's the F1 button). Double click on the missing cell in Ground2K and click the "Land" radio button in the Fill1x1/LWM box.If this doesn't work, then you might need to create some landclass. It's helpful to make the landclass overlap at least one cell into the water area. Sometimes, it is not enough just to create landclass on the section that is missing - you need to go one cell farther out into the water. This is because of the way that FS merges landclass scenery together. Don't worry, your "land" landclass won't actually overlap onto the water. I had this problem before, and for some reason the land wouldn't show until I did this. Please make sure you tell us all when this is done. I need to go to Virtual-Uncle-Bob's.- Martin

I got it! Landclass did it! It is uploaded to AVSIM and should become available for download at next update!

This point has been raised a number of times, and perhaps it would be useful for others if this were made clear.A ground tile is formed in the following manner: - land class values are assigned to each vertex of the Area (LOD13); - depending on the region of the world and the season of the year, the scenery engine picks the corresponding ground texture; - using a blend mask, the four ground textures are blended in the Area (this avoids abrupt changes from one type of ground texture to another); - all vector terrain elements (roads, rivers, lakes, etc.) are integrated; - the ground tile is formed. Here are the illustrations:Ground2K4 draws a grid on your project so that you can easily visualize the ground tile:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/55030.jpgAll land class values are assigned to the vertices of the LOD13 grids and project into the surrounding Areas:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/55031.jpgIn order to create the ground tile, land class values MUST be assigned to all the vertices of that Area:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/55032.jpgOnly then will the ground tile be complete:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/55033.jpgPlease note the you do NOT have to click on a vertex in order to assign land class values. For ease of use, Ground2K4 displaces the grid when you choose the "Land Class" option:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/55037.jpgWhen you click on the grid, you are, in fact, assigning a value to the vertex. Also note that this problem only arises when extending terrain out into the sea. In land-locked projects, there is always a default underlying land class value that will complete the assignments and the ground tile will always be created. Not so over water. Here, you must ensure that all vertices of an Area have a land class assignment. To resume, a ground tile can only be formed if all of its vertices have a land class assignment. If this problem arises for you, simply extend the land class into the water, as Martin indicates.Best regards.Luis
