August 21, 200421 yr Hi there,Total newbie here with respect to scenery design. I'm trying to create a landclass for the Ottawa area using CLUMP data (http://www.geogratis.cgdi.gc.ca). Here's what I've done:1. imported the interchange (e00) file to a coverage2. made that into a shapefile and projected it to geographic, WGS843. symbolized that into different colours for different landclasses4. exported that as a 200 dpi bitmap (image below -- I had to severely degrade the quality to upload the picture to the forum)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/88683.jpg5. brought that bitmap into Fireworks and cropped it to the area that's actually classified.6. figured out the extent of the cropped bitmap (0.618 degrees x 0.618 degrees)7. eyeballed the centre coordinates (-75.73E, 45.37N)8. in AutoAsm, pointed it to my working directory and bitmap, entered the values for image width (2080x1477 px) as well as the values above. Now, when I click on Read Data, it appears to be reading the file, data scroll by in the window, but then it kicks me out with a "Subscript out of range" error:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/88682.gifSo a couple of questions for the gurus out there: Are there limitations on file size for the bitmap? What is the smallest pixel you can use for landlass in FS9?Can you see anything obviously wrong with what I'm doing here? Do you have any suggestions for a better way to go about doing this? Thanks for your help!Greghttp://members.rogers.com/gmoffatt/images/ERJ_CRT.jpg
August 22, 200421 yr Hi Greg, there are two *major* problems! AutoAsm can produce landclass scenery, but you do not use the READ DATA function for this. READ DATA is specifically for producing LWM and VTP scenery. However, you can produce terrain mesh and landclass scenery on the Terrain panel. Which brings me, rather neatly, to the second problem.... From the screenshot it is clear that you are using a completely obsolete version which does not have terrain mesh/landclass functions. The current version splits the functions onto different panels, including the Terrain panel for terrain mesh and landclass functions. Unfortunately the new unified release isn't ready yet (hopefully in September) so you need three downloads to get completely up to date:http://www.kline.demon.co.uk/AutoAsmV05.zip (the original release last December)http://www.kline.demon.co.uk/AutoAsm_Update_2.zip (update from the end of January)http://www.kline.demon.co.uk/autoasm_temp_update.zip (the latest update added recently) Be sure to read the readme in the temp update zip! Best regards, Chris
August 22, 200421 yr Author Awesome Chris, thanks so much! I'll check those out when I've got a moment and hopefully I'll have better luck :)Take care,Greghttp://members.rogers.com/gmoffatt/images/ERJ_CRT.jpg
