Poly texturing in G2k4 : "Do not use" textures

Recommended Posts

Guest Dominique

Hi folks !Giving a shot at some scenery making in FS9. It has been a long time since I did anything in that field and that was for Fly!2 :). Way back...So excuse my somewhat simplistic questions.First question : some textures are labelled "DO NOT USE" in the Ground2k4 VTP2 tab, specifically "Ocean inlet". They actually show up nicely when used. Are there any further complications to be expected ?ThanksDominique

Salut Dominique,Ah! another great mystery. The official FS documents indicate that those textures should not be used. But, why? Does that mean that the FS Development Team wants to use those land class values for other textures in the future? Is there some bug in the scenery engine that can cause those textures to display incorrectly? Is there some other unknown reason? Who knows?Since the Terrain S.D.K. specifically mentions that those land class values should not be used, Christian Fumey included that in Ground2K4. But, it is up to you to decide if you want to follow the advice or not. As usual, Microsoft may or may not change the land class scheme in future versions of the game, so you may or may not have some surprises in store! A toi de voir.Best regards.Luis
