Chasing Waterfalls

Recommended Posts

I'm currently working on a scenery for Kempsey Australia - see http://virtualvfr.com - and I'd like to add some white water and waterfalls to the gorges in the great dividing range (using Andy Weir's Ozmesh STRM terrain.). I use Ground2K4 and it seems to me that the easiest way to go is to lay down a custom bitmap on the stream line (since I'm not savvy enough to know if a custom stream line is even possible) and then use a steam/smoke effect to simulate spray. I don't want to re-invent the wheel though. Anyone out there chasing waterfalls?Che

Hi Che,you don't necessarily have to draw a custom bitmap first because there is a special waterfall texture that can be adjusted to cover the back of the falls. Then you just have to add front and bottom spray effects. The main problem is to figure out the key effect parameters that require tweaking. Thus, I'd start with downloading the Effects SDK - http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimul...k.asp#specialfx - as well as a number of already existing add-ons with waterfalls for reference: yosemite_falls.zip by Larry Silsbee, crg_upd1.zip by Larry and myself, vicfalls.zip by Johan van Wyk and myself, etc.Enjoy your waterfall "building" ;-)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/126959.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/126960.jpg

Hey Holger, I tried to contact you on Hovercontrol. You probably have a private message waiting. :) Um... What's the special waterfall texture called? Is it a stream line type, or a land class type? Or just a texture? Where can I find it? Thanks for the information about the effects. Can I place an effect with an object placer? Thanks, Che
